Finals facts
* Davenport wins her 46th career Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles final in her 81st final; she improved to 1-2 in finals for 2005, having finished runner-up at Australian Open (l. to S.Williams) and Tokyo [Pan Pacific] (l. to Sharapova) in her two most recent appearances
* Jankovic was appearing in her second career final, having won the 2004 Budapest title last May
* Jankovic led an early service break (2-1) in the third set and later held three more break points (one at 3-all and two at 4-all) only for Davenport to break to love in the 10th game
* Davenport improves to 3-0 lifetime vs. Jankovic, having beaten her twice last year at Charleston (2r) and Filderstadt (QF)
* It is only the fourth singles title (out of 46) Davenport has won as the world's No.1-ranked player
* In five editions of the Dubai Duty Free Women's Open the world No.1 has won the title on three occasions (Hingis - 2001, Henin-Hardenne - 2004, Davenport - 2005) while the No.1 seed has won on four occasions (all of the above plus world No.4 Henin-Hardenne in 2003)
* Ruano Pascual/Suarez win their 27th Sony Ericsson WTA Tour doubles title as a team, the 30th overall for Ruano Pascual and 37th for Suarez; it was only their second pairing for 2005, with a leg injury delaying Suarez's start to the season
* Doubles runners-up Kuznetsova/Molik lose their first-ever match as a team (9-1), having won the Australian Open title on debut in January; Molik had won her first 13 doubles matches of the season, having also won the Doha title last week with Francesca Schiavone

Quotes
Lindsay Davenport, 2005 Dubai singles champion:
"It was very tight. I never knew what was going to happen. But I played a great point at 4-all when I was down break point. It was a really long rally and I came up with some great shots in that rally and that really saved me."

On Jankovic: "I think she is incredibly fast out there, and she changes direction of the ball very well. She likes to hit to the open court, and the amount of balls and how she hit them on the run was very good."

Jelena Jankovic, singles runner-up:
"It was just a few points at the end. It was important when I had break point at 4-all and I let it slip; it was the key. It was a long point and she won it, and then I kind of gave it away. I was just too tired and I couldn't serve anymore. I couldn't bend my legs."

"I'm getting better but I'm still a lot weaker than the other players. I'm working on that and that's my main goal. Sometimes when Lindsay hit the ball my hand was hurting. I thought my wrist was going to fall off. But I don't want to be like a bodybuilder!"
